Detoxification, otherwise known as detox, is a crucial first step in the treatment and recovery process. During this stage of care, medical staff and clinicians will work closely with the patient to rid the body of addictive substances, while managing the physical and emotional discomforts that may develop. Although this process can seem scary, when implemented under medical supervision, the patient is able to withdraw in a safe and comfortable manner.
While detox is necessary for many Brookdale patients, it is merely the first phase in ongoing care. Considering the complexity of substance use disorders, it is imperative that treatment approaches address every aspect of the disease, including mind, body, and spirit. This is done through a continuum of care, including various clinical modalities, medical services, family education, health and wellness, aftercare support and much more.
Brookdale Recovery is a sub-acute, co-ed detoxification and residential rehab program for individuals 18 years and older. We treat patients diagnosed with moderate to severe substance use disorders (SUD). All potential patients, including those with milder forms of SUDs, will be evaluated by our intake team to determine the most appropriate level of care.
Our comprehensive programming allows us to serve a great number of individuals, including patients with underlying medical conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure, pregnant women up to 28 weeks of gestation, and patients diagnosed with co-occurring disorders. However, each person’s history and circumstances are unique, and therefore, must be treated in such regard. When confronted with a situation where our medical team is not equipped to treat a condition, we will work closely with partnering clinicians, hospitals and medical providers to ensure each patient receives the appropriate care they need.
Upon entering Brookdale’s Detox Program, patients will be triaged in preparation for the next level of care. In order to determine the most appropriate and beneficial treatment plans, our medical team will perform an individualized evaluation of the patient’s need, history, medical concerns, mental health or co-occurring disorders and any other contributing factors.
Our primary goal at Brookdale Recovery is to provide each patient with compassionate, quality care while ensuring their safety and comfort. Upon arrival to our medically managed detoxification unit, nursing and medical personnel will respond rapidly to patient needs while gathering information, similar to how hospital emergency departments function. Once working diagnoses are established and urgent care is initiated, our Medical Department can then refine treatment plans to encompass both medical and nonmedical interventions addressing all underlying conditions.
Alongside 24-hour medical and nursing supervision, a novel feature of Brookdale’s detox unit is that each patient will be seen by liaison personnel throughout the course of detox, beginning their first day. Our Clinical Detox Supervisor will provide education and counseling services while patients are in the unit, and serve as an essential intermediate between nursing, medical staff and the next phase of care.
